Hindu Baby Names
Hindu baby names have historically been influenced by religion, caste, epics, and regions. They are often given after sages, saints and deities in order to always be reminded of God. Birth names are often separate from official names and are usually given through customs such as consulting the person's horoscope for a name starting with a letter believed to be favorable for the baby. First, second and third names are usually given, with the third being a family name. The third name can also be a god's or grandparent's name. In Hindy, naming a child is one of the scripture based rites, or "samskars." A Hindu baby name should inspire the receiver to live a just life. Possible baby boy names include Amal, meaning "bright or clean," Anand or "bliss," Harsh or "joy," and Kavi, meaning "poet." Possible baby girl names include Anurhada or "bright star," Neelam or "sapphire," and Priya or "darling."
